Elizabeth is a great listener/reflector. I also have gained lots of insights on myself, both through her reflections and her knowledge she shares with me when relevant

ABOUT MARRIN THERAPY WORKS

As owner of Marrin Therapy Works, I am a caring and creative licensed professional with over 20 years’ combined experience in education, mental health, and healthcare sectors bringing together a uniquely diverse set of clinical and evaluative skills in order to promote optimal human development and functioning.

I am committed to offering a safe and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. You will receive personalized therapy where you may navigate a deep understanding of your life in order to promote healing, and ultimately to get more joy and meaning from it.

Professional Journey & My Approach to Therapy

My path to becoming a therapist has been shaped by one consistent belief: people heal best when they feel genuinely seen, respected, and supported. Over the past 16 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals from many different backgrounds and life circumstances—people navigating trauma, substance use, mood disorders, major transitions, and the everyday weight of stress that can quietly build over time. Each experience has deepened my commitment to offering therapy that is both compassionate and practical, grounded in evidence-based care and tailored to the person in front of me.

My training reflects that blend of depth and real-world application. I hold dual master’s degrees—an Ed.M. from Harvard University in Human Development and Psychology, and an M.S. from UMass Boston in Mental Health Counseling. That foundation helps me look at the whole person: not just symptoms, but the developmental, relational, and environmental factors that shape how we cope, connect, and move through the world. I’m licensed as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Massachusetts and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania, and I bring a strong ethical and clinical framework to every client relationship.

In my current work as a licensed therapist, I provide remote virtual psychotherapy for individuals experiencing mental illness, complex trauma, and substance use disorders. We start with comprehensive intakes and diagnostic assessments—taking the time to understand what’s happening now, what has happened in the past, and what you want your life to look like moving forward. From there, I collaborate with you to create a treatment plan that is clear, realistic, and aligned with your goals. I also have extensive experience with crisis intervention and multidisciplinary collaboration, which means I’m comfortable supporting clients through high-stress moments while coordinating care thoughtfully when additional supports are needed.

My approach: evidence-based, relational, and tailored to you

I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. My approach is integrative and client-centered, drawing from evidence-based modalities while staying grounded in the relationship we build together. Depending on your needs, we may incorporate:

- **CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)** to identify patterns in thoughts and behaviors and build skills that reduce distress.
- **DBT-informed strategies** to strengthen emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.
- **Mindfulness-based practices** to help you feel more present and less overwhelmed by what-ifs and worst-case scenarios.
- **Narrative therapy** to explore the stories you’ve carried—especially the ones shaped by trauma, shame, or painful experiences—and to create space for new meaning.
- **Solution-focused work** when you want practical steps, momentum, and tools you can use right away.
- **Motivational interviewing** to support change in a way that respects ambivalence and honors your pace.
- **Grief therapy** when loss—of a person, a relationship, a role, or a future you expected—needs care and attention.

I also practice from a **trauma-informed lens**, which means I prioritize safety, choice, collaboration, and empowerment. For clients impacted by substance use, I often incorporate **harm reduction and relapse prevention** approaches that are realistic, nonjudgmental, and focused on reducing risk while strengthening stability and self-trust.

What you can expect in sessions

Therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to perform, explain everything perfectly, or “have it all together.” We’ll work at a pace that feels manageable, and we’ll focus on both insight and action—understanding what’s driving your patterns while also building tools to help you feel better in your day-to-day life.

Sometimes that means learning concrete coping strategies. Sometimes it means processing painful experiences. Often, it means both. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, more connected to yourself, and more capable of navigating life with clarity and confidence.

Moving forward

If you’re considering therapy, I want you to know you don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable to reach out. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship stress, substance use concerns, or a life transition that has left you feeling unsteady, support can make a meaningful difference.

If you’d like to see whether we’re a good fit, I’d be glad to connect and talk about what you’re looking for and how I can help.

Thank you for reaching out!  It is so important to continue the journey!

Elizabeth
